The Importance of Forgiveness

I have a confession to make. I only recently learned how important it was to forgive. I tell you, Elly has made me grow in so many ways, I owe her A LOT. I had a falling out with someone I know when I was expecting and only after Elly was born did I send out an olive branch and try to forgive her. It wasn't the easiest thing to do. Do you know it is easier to hold onto a grudge than to forgive? But you are more at peace, happier and receive more blessings when you choose to let bygones be bygones. I didn't know this until the above incident.

I try to pray a lot. It's the one thing that keeps me sane. But you know when you say The Lord's Prayer and you ask God to forgive you as you forgive others? I didn't realize the implication of this until I needed to forgive someone. More recently, I had another falling out with another friend due to misunderstandings mostly (which we have sorted out, thankfully), and you know, I used to think apologizing was hard, wait until I was the one who needed to accept an apology! But I got through it. Guess how? By repeating the Our Father often and actually paying attention to what I said.

From a purely human point of view, there is no reason why some people or actions should be forgiven. But in order to move forward, you have to forgive. We spend so much energy trying to remember why that person or event offended us that we could spend doing something more positive with our lives. Forgiveness costs nothing save a bit of a bruise on your ego. But you get over it and you are much happier. Take it from me. Since I chose to forgive, my life is now moving forward to places I had only ever dreamt of and I couldn't be happier.

My inspiration from this: Forgive and forget. Sounds cliche, I know, but it works!
