REFLECT ON...A Simpler life

***Previously referred to as Reflections, this series expands on a variety of topics which are selected to help you think more deeply about your life in order to make it richer and more fulfilling. Nobody likes to look back and say “What if…”

Hello lovelies!
Towards the end of last year, a good friend suggested that I add the blog, The Simply Luxurious Life to my reading list. What struck me most is that this is not your typical fashion/style blog.  Among the many different topics that I enjoy on this blog is this blog post which challenged me to simplify my life. When my baby arrived I noticed that many of the things I found so important before becoming a mum did not seem to be so important anymore. So for the next few weeks, I will reflect on a certain aspect of life in a bid to simplify it and improve on the quality of my life. I welcome you to take part in this challenge with me in order to live a simpler, more fulfilling life.

Challenge #1: Declutter your wardrobe

"The unburdening of stuff is a de-stressor because when you aren’t looking at clutter, your mind is free to think about ideas and not the perpetual reminder of excess stuff that needs to be picked up."

I couldn’t think of a better start to this challenge than by decluttering my closet. It’s amazing how much you can accumulate in terms of shoes and accessories. If you disregard the fact that most of my pre-motherhood clothes still don’t fit, many of my clothes have either never been worn or have seen the light of day only once.  Other clothes were bought on a whim or out of peer pressure hence their long stay in the wardrobe.
When deciding which clothes to get rid of, I first had to decide on what my personal style would lean towards this year.  I would like to take on a more simplistic polished approach to my dressing. In addition to this, my post-maternity body paired with the demands that come with motherhood have forced me to take a functional approach towards my clothing. In this respect, I have decided not to cling onto those clothes that will take me more than a year to maybe fit into again and in the process, ensure that whichever clothes remain in my wardrobe will keep in line with my style choices for the rest of this year.
I know I am bound to come across those clothes that I will find difficult to get rid of because they have some history, but I am well aware of how detrimental it is to cling to the past if I want to move forward in my life, so I will have to be tough on myself.
Will you be taking part in this challenge? Please share your thoughts on living a simpler life in the comments below.
