WHAT I WORE: African Twist

Hi all!!
One of the things I have feared most ever since I started understanding fashion and personal style is wearing African attire. I am a proud African and I have had an African outfit plus the headgear since I was 17 years old. Ok, I got something similar to the one below (the colours were more towards browns and blacks) for a cultural event and I rocked it every once in a while.
Then things happened and I just thought if I wear this I might end up looking older than I really am. So I packed the outfit far away and didn't think about it for years. It's only when I came back home from pursuing my studies in India that I remembered that I had left it there. I was so sad, but when I got down to the details, I realized that it wouldn't fit me anyway.
Fastforward a couple of months and enter this skirt. I bought it at Gikomba Market as what my sister labelled my Sunday Skirt. Because it is of a respectable length, it was unanimously decided that this is my most appropriate Sunday skirt. Where to begin?
I am always talking when I'm meant to be taking photos hence the weird facial expression
I love the fact that it's a wrap around skirt. I have never owned one of those!! Then the print can be called African although the skirt is made in India. The colours are subtle enough to allow me to play around with the tops I choose to pair it with. And what's more, I went full on African, headgear and all, and I was paid so many compliments!!!

 Outfit Details:
Skirt: Gikomba Market, Nairobi
Top: Chandigarh, India
Beaded necklace: Gift from Maasai Market, Nairobi
Wedges: Moi Avenue, Nairobi (hawkers)
Clutch: Marks and Spencer, India
Scarf as headwrap: Gikomba
Bangles: Identity, Village Market, Nairobi

What has your experience been with African outfits? Would you wear them even in your twenties or would you prefer to leave it for when you are older? Let me know in the comments!!

Happy Tuesday!!
