Inches 2 Style

A blog on fashion, motherhood and personal development.

I've just come from completing my first day as one of the employed and I feel like I've achieved something I never thought was possible. I am so happy to be working. I know many people would ask me if I was insane but the truth is when I went for the interview for this job I came out of there praying that I would get it. I was enthralled with the work my soon to be boss was doing and I just wanted to be a part of it. And now I am. Yay!!!
On another note, one of the things I learnt from my mum is how to dress for church, especially on Sunday. She always encouraged us, she still does, to put on our best clothes and shoes. Very often she'd say it was a sign of respect to God to dress well on the day of worship.
I know dressing well has different meanings for different people. But what mum emphasized was that we should avoid wearing jeans, that is the girls because I guess a man's wardrobe may not permit him to be so picky. So in an effort to sometimes placate mum and get her off my back, I wear a dress and heels. Other times when I don't feel much like dressing up I wear jeans, a girly top and heels, for which I get frowns.

I'm not 100 percent certain what fabric this dress is made of but when I bought it I knew it was a greyish-blueish cotton dress. Then my sister told me it was denim to which I refused. How would you describe this dress?

 Outfit Details:
Dress: Sarojini Market, India
Heels: Ngara, Nairobi (Ksh.150 for original Marie Claire shoes)
Earrings and Necklace: Gift
Belt: from my sister
Coat: Wills, India

The weather on Sunday was very good and I didn't actually need the coat. But I had frozen so much on Friday and Saturday that I was afraid I'd catch a cold. So I opted to keep myself warm.
This is the second time I'm wearing this dress and I don't see myself wearing it again in the near future. It has a weird fir and I haven't yet found a tailor here that I can trust to alter it.

I hope you're back from holiday mode!!! A three day weekend can be torturous when you have to get back into work rhythm.

Happy Tuesday!!!

  1. It is denim! It's the same thing with my mom. She feels a feminine silhouette is more befitting for church.. We always tease that she is making us look good for potential husband :-)

    1. So I guess that means I got away with wearing denim to church!!! You should see the evil grin on my face:-)

  2. i actually like the dress. do not do away with it just yet, find new ways to wear it instead :)

    1. Really? Maybe with time it will grow on me. Let's see if by styling it differently I'll change my mind about it.
